AUTUMN JOY

All summer I watch this plant grow in our front garden from a stub to this bush.  It is a perennial sedum called "Autumn Joy", and right on schedule on the first of September it blooms.  It always says to me that the Fall season is upon us; and I begin to want to make a quilt using autumnal colors.

Here is this year's effort.

THE STATS:  Autumn Joy, 2026, 26" x 26", Paper Pieced, Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted.

This quilt was photographed at the Colorado State Armory in Manzanola, Colorado.  Several armories were built in the 1920s around the state to house the Colorado State Guard Units.  Because of their very large areas inside, they were also used as community areas, gymnasiums, roller rinks, etc.
The Canon City Armory was designed by the same Manzanola architect, and were both built in 1922.  The Canon City building was the only gym in town until the new high school was built in 1961, so was used for school athletic events.
