MAY'S THROWBACK THURSDAY

This month for Throwback Thursday I thought I would show you the first quilt I had published in Quilter's Newsletter Magazine way back in March 1984 ---- my, that was a long time ago!

Here it is as it appeared in the magazine.  It is a traditional quilt done in the 'strippy style'.  I think that it is funny that they included it in the "Modern Quilting" section.  Compared to today's modern quilting movement, there is nothing modern about it.
The quilt is queen-sized, machine-pieced, and hand-quilted.
Times certainly have changed in the quilting world, but some things remain the same.
I still like a strippy-set quilt, but today they are turned horizontally and called a row quilt!!!

Oh, yes, strippies. Still one of my favorite styles and they can look as traditional or as modern as you like. I made a break with most of my old QNMs recently. It was hard, but it was time. I'm glad to see features of them popping up online so I can still enjoy them. Congrats on your first published quilt and thanks for sharing the memory with us.

It's really cute and I think you should remake it using modern fabrics!

Oh my gosh, templates! I remember those days! And I agree, you should remake it, this time as a row quilt! Thanks for the memories.

It is very pretty. It would be interesting to see it done in modern fabrics.

I thought I commented on this but I don't see it. This is a lovely quilt and I would like to see it redone in modern fabrics too.

It's always so fun to take a trip down memory lane. I agree with the others, this quilt would be interesting to see done in one of the more modern fabric lines. The first quilt I ever made (2004) I used cardboard templates. Every point matched, and not a one was cut off. Looking back, I wonder how I ever did that! LOL Thanks for linking to Main Crush Monday...I've enjoyed your look back in time!
